Hub & Rim Dimensions & their Measurement

• A is the distance between spoke holes across the flange on the front hub measured between centres.


• B is half the distance between flanges of the front hub measured from the outside of the flange.


• C is the distance between spoke holes across the flange on the back hub measured between centres.


• D is the distance from the outside of the non-drive side flange of the back hub to the centre of the hub between locknuts.


• E is the distance from the outside of the drive side flange of the back hub to the centre of the hub between locknuts.

The average diameter of the rim can be worked out by screwing two 200mm spokes (cut to length) into nipples on opposing holes & measuring the distance A between them. Take a number of readings (since the rim isn't usually perfectly round) around the rim and average them.
